On 23 February was a holiday - the "Day of Defender of the Fatherland" ("Djen saschtschitnika atjétschestwa"), the former "Soviet Army Day." Informally, the day corresponding to the one in Germany than what Ascension is celebrated - it is the "Men's Day". On this day greeting cards given away with tanks and flowers, more companies go to the Amur, drink beer and make "schaschliký" (barbecue). Temperatures were here on that day only have risen slightly below zero degrees, and together with John - my visit from Germany - we took the opportunity of a detailed walk on the icy, snow-covered river. An exciting adventure: if there is not already well-trodden path, there is always a surprise, if you can walk comfortably, or until the thigh is sinking in the snow. We crossed the river several times and enjoyed the winter romance on the Datscheninsel against the Komsomolzenplatz and on the Big Island of Ussuri further south to the village and across the ice Tschumka down highway.
